Pranav Shukla (Shravan Kumar)

President – Anadi Seva Prakalp
Youth Leader, Social Activist & Environmentalist
“अहर्निशं सेवामहे”

Pranavendra Narayan Shukla was born in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh on 24th December 1975.

The son of a successful professor and political activist Dr.Surya Pal Shukla, Pranav received good education and decided to pursue Medicine after completion of middle school. However, after spending 25 days in the medical college he finally dropped out of Medicine to pursue a career in Fashion Designing. There was no financial support from the family since it was against their wish. An MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis institute of Management Studies, Pune and a graduate in Fashion Designing with two decades of corporate Experience

While he was pursuing degree in Fashion Designing a strange incident happened which ultimately was the turning point in his life. On one such wintery evening, while Pranav was returning from his college, he reached Okhla station to board a train. While walking on the station, his eyes fell upon an old man, shabbily dressed, sitting in one corner of the platform and shivering in the chilled weather. Pranav was wearing his most favourite jacket which he had bought with all the money he had saved.

Pranav had decided by that time that once Pranav had decided by that time that once he becomes independent, he would contribute towards the wellbeing of the elderly. While other boys of his age were busy planning their career Pranav’s perspective on life was completely different. Reminds us of a famous poem by Robert Frost – “The Road Not Taken”. The poem allows the reader to think about the choices in life, whether to go with the mainstream or to go alone in a less traversed road.

Pranav started pursuing the passion for social service at the age of 19 and has been actively involved in the field of social service in Faridabad, Haryana and Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh since 1996

On 14th August 1996 Pranav Shukla started an old age home for senior citizens who were unable to stay with their families or were destitute. He started the home with 3 people and eventually named it “Änadi Seva Prakalp”. Today, 27 elderly people from different states are residing in this old age home. Special efforts are being made to ensure they are served with care, commitment and concern to make everyone feel at home. The old age home has made special medical facilities for senior citizens such as mobile health care systems, ambulances and provision of well-balanced meals free of cost. He has also performed the last rites of this inmates which in other words is known as “Äntim Sanskar” in Hindu Dharma. The process is significant as it is understood that the ritual takes the deceased towards the path where he or she attains moksha. The ritual is generally done by the children or closed relative of the deceased. However, in these cases though Pranav was not related to them, yet he performed the duties of a son with love and respect.

People who knows Pranav must have heard him saying these words many times “Humesha apne dil ki suno aur wohi karo jo aapko thik lagey” meaning “Always listen to your heart and do things which you think is right”.

With the old age home in place, Pranav started the Godham (Diary Farm) in the year 2009 with the introduction of 2 cows. He personally took care of feeding the Cows, bathing them, milking and cleaning their sheds every day. Today Anadi Godham has 138 Indian Gir breed cows. The dairy products are now available in the markets in and around Delhi, Faridabad and Gurgaon. The income generated from the Godham is utilised to meet the expenses of the old age home and the ultimate objective is to make the old age home self-sufficient.

Lately Pranav has also started Organic Farming in _ acres of land near _. The objective was to produce chemical free healthy food, conserve genetic diversity of crop plants and also sustain the ecological conditions of the farm along with the quality of the by product.

Pranavendra’s relentless work for the neediest of his countrymen is acknowledged in the form of prestigious awards and aides. He was a proud recipient of the Neelkanth award in __

He was awarded the Best Youth Volunteer for social excellence, Itanagar (AP) in 1996.
